WHO WE ARE

THE HEART OF OUR MOVEMENT IS FOR ALL PEOPLE AND THEIR CHILDREN TO LIVE TOGETHER WITH DIGNITY

We are a group of volunteer organizers and activists who came together after the detainment of loved community members and friends in the Philly Cambodian community this last fall, 2010. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is threatening communities nationwide with the permanent removal of fathers, husbands, friends and family members, some on the basis of crimes committed in the past. The Obama Administration has deported over 1 million people, which will leave all of our communities to suffer the dire consequences of a generation of young people separated from their parents.

We are living in a political and economic climate that puts people last. A climate that uses power and money to pit us against each other and scapegoat groups of people at different times for political gain. We want to unite and create change in a space where our own common human values come before fear and hate-baiting politics.

While our friends are only a few people in this mass of injustice, their stories provide examples of how the system works against the family. Continued detention and deportation of hard-working providers and family is not in the best interests of our cities, our economies, our country.
The instability of ONE family on ONE block, the foreclosure of ONE home, the loss of ONE job, the delinquency of ONE fatherless youth, the destruction of hope in ONE young person, the weight of an entire family on ONE mother's shoulders - effects all of us.
Federal regulations in immigration, education, healthcare, housing and employment, are blanketing our communities without full understanding of the people, not the numbers, effected by these policies.
We call on our cities, our districts, our states, to stand up for what is happening on the ground, represent us and our concerns, and defend our neighborhoods from a federal force and corporate interests that refuse to see us for who we are as people in the community.
